Growing up, I played on a wide range of teams and I found I had the most success on teams that provided goalie coaching. These were great and did help me improve but looking back, I actually think I learned the most from watching and analyzing NHL goalies and how they played. Before every game, I would watch an old VHS tape from 1998 called “The NHL’s Masked Men, The Last Line Of Defense”. It showed the highlights and lowlights of some of the best NHL goalies up until the time. Such as Hasek, Brodeur, Curtis Joseph and many others. 

WHAT IS TPSH GOALIE?

Growing up, I played on a wide range of teams and I found I had the most success on teams that provided goalie coaching. These were great and did help me improve but looking back, I actually think I learned the most from watching and analyzing NHL goalies and how they played. Before every game, I would watch an old VHS tape from 1998 called “The NHL’s Masked Men, The Last Line Of Defense”. It showed the highlights and lowlights of some of the best NHL goalies up until the time. Such as Hasek, Brodeur, Curtis Joseph and many others. 
I didn’t understand at the time, but by watching this video over and over, my brain basically downloaded their movements and when I would get on the ice, I would imitate what I saw. There was a famous experiment which proved that when a monkey watches another monkey raise their hand, the areas in the brain which move the hand will be active in the observer as well.

That’s why when you watch a movie and someone is underwater for long periods of time, you might feel like holding your breath or if they get hurt like breaking their arm, you can almost feel it too. 

So when it comes to goaltending, it is important to not only workout both on and off the ice, but to also watch and learn from other goalies. Although you might have different playing styles, there is always something you can learn and implement in your game. Though the goal isn’t to copy, it’s to understand what it is that they are doing and why it works.

So TPSH Goalie is my way of breaking down what works and doesn’t work so you can learn from real game scenarios but also from a ton of other amazing how-to videos and drills that you can work on in practice or games.

I have been a goalie my entire life playing at various levels except for about 5 years while I was in college and then after when I was starting my career as a filmmaker. 

One day I got asked to play again and I can't describe how much I sucked compared to how well I used to play.

Flash forward to today, I am now one of the best goalies in my league, I have more control over my on ice movements, I can track the puck better and I am able to read and understand plays faster than I ever have before. 

That's because for the last few years I have been posting goalie videos on my YouTube channel called The Puck Stops Here with the intention of educating other goalies around the world.

I have poured my heart and soul into TPSH goalie to give you every tool you need to become a better goaltender whether you're strapping on the pads for the first time or you have played your entire life.

How often do you add new content?

I will be adding at least 2 new pieces of content every week. Whether it is a video breakdown of a goal or save from a recent game or a new goalie tip for you to use in your game. 

My goal is to update the site as frequently as possible to provide you with the best goalie training online.

What day and time is the weekly Q&A?

Every Sunday evening at 7:00pm EST I will be hosting a Live Q&A where I will be answering your goalie related questions.

Please note that I do travel for work but as long as I am in the country (Canada), the live stream will be schedule for that day and time. 

When can I submit my own game footage for review?

Right now TPSH Goalie is in stage 1 of 5 but I am working extremely hard to get it to stage 5 as quickly as possible. Here is a breakdown of what to expect from each stage.

  • Stage 1: More advanced and detailed video and written breakdowns of all current and past goals I have and will let in.
  • ​Stage 2: Advanced save breakdowns to show you the results of using proper techniques and choosing the right save selection for each type of shot. 
  • ​Stage 3: On and off ice how to videos demonstrating proper form and technique on how to move efficiently and effectively on the ice. I will also be creating a video series to help you choose the best equipment for your style of play and size as well as breaking down the differences between low and high level equipment.  
  • ​Stage 4: On and off ice professional goalie training specifically geared towards goalies who may not have extra ice time or practices to work on new techniques. This training will allow you to work on things in games such as during warmups, in between plays and periods. 
  • ​Stage 5: Virtual goalie coach experiences where you can submit your own game footage and work remotely with a real goalie coach to improve your game. This will include phone calls, written and video breakdowns of your games and so much more. 

When will TPSH Goalie be at stage 5?

I am working hard at getting TPSH Goalie to stage 5 as soon as I can, but it takes time to find the right goalie coaches who are ready an available to join the team. I do not have a set date as to when TPSH Goalie will reach stage 5 but I am going to do my best to get it there by January 2021.
